Antey Magarachsky grapes

Antey Magarachsky is a black-skinned grape variety acknowledged as a Ukraine hybrid created during the research in the center of Yalta.

This hybrid managed by the breeders – Golodriga, Usatov, Troshin, Malchikov and Dubovenco is frequently used to make sweet red wines of different styles.

Also, Antey Magarachsky is included in the list of varieties which are cultivated grapes, which are used for wine or as a table grape.

Origin

In 1971, the well-known breeders, P Y Golodriga, V T Usatov, L P Troshin, Y A Malchikov and N Dubovenco obtained the hybrid Antey Magarachsky.

It was done at the Magarach research center in Yalta in southern Ukraine. At first, it was thought as a cross between Rubinovy Magaracha and Magarach 85-64-16 and later as the offspring of Perle Noire propagated with a mixture of unknown Vitis vinifera varieties.

According to the DNA parentage analysis, Perle Noire is the parent not the grandparent and so Antey Magarachsky parentage was reformed to the combination of Rubinovy Magarach and Perle Noire.

In 1988, Antey Magarachsky was officially included in the list of the registered grape varieties in Ukraine.

Characteristics of Antey Magarachsky

The Antey Magarachsky has thin-skinned berries, which are mostly unaffected by phylloxera, downy and powdery mildew. They can adapt to or withstand the cold – hardy temperature -24 degrees Celsius.

Antey Magarachsky is mostly used as a wine grape or a table grape eaten fresh or dried. It usually produces wines with the taste of sweetness.
