Calkarasi grapes

Cal Karasi is one amazing variety of red wine grape that is used in the production of a variety of tasteful wines which are further admired by a number of wine-lovers of the world.


Cal Karasi majorly finds its origin in the Cal district of the Denizli Province of western Turkey. The wines produced out of this variety of red wine grape are very tasteful in nature.

This variety of red wine grape also gives its name to a wine that is produced from the same grape which entertains various sweety, berry as well as fruity flavors. This variety of red wine grape is light in color and is one fine obscure variety of red wine grapes.

It is majorly used in the production of juicy as well as moderately acidic rose wines. All the wines produced out of this red wine grape variety entertain the flavors of raspberry as well as strawberry.

At the same time, this grape variety comes along in a mild floral perfume. Cal Karasi can also be prepared into a range of sparkling rose wines one of which is known as Pember Kopuk.

Cal Karasi is a native to the Denizli region and is used in the production of some excellent rose wines of the world. Also, this grape is used in the production of a number of lights as well as fruity red wines that are highly admired by the wine-lovers.

This grape variety is highly acidic in nature and this is the reason it is used in the production of wines that are both balanced as well as lively.

The levels of alcohol entertained by the wines that are produced out of Cal Karasi are 12 to 13.5 percent respectively. Cal Karasi is also known under the name of Calkarasi.

Cal Karasi is not a recent but a very ancient variety of red wine grape which mainly finds its origin in the ancient times. The vines of this grape have been growing for thousands of years now.

This red wine grape finds its main origin in Turkey. Cal Karasi is only found in the mountainous regions around Gomce village.

All the wines produced out of this variety of grape entertain 12-13 percentage of alcohol with 5-7 grams/liters of acidity.


Cal Karasi is abundantly rich in a number of characteristics.

Talking about the favorable climatic conditions of this grape variety, the vines of this grape are best grown in a mild climate.

However, if these wines are grown at a higher altitude, they become relatively harsher.

These vines best suite the Mediterranean climate. The temperatures can rise to 40 degree Celsius in summer and can fall up to -10 degree Celsius in the winter season.

These vines take a time period of about 80 days with precipitation, majorly during the winter season. The vines of this grape variety grow in the soil that differs from clay loam in the lower elevations to the calcareous chalks at the higher altitudes of 1100m meters.

The berries of this grape are purplish-black in color and therefore the wines produced out of this grape are gorgeous as to their appearance. The form of these berries is ellipsoidal and their size ranges from small to medium.

These vines also entertain the capability to grow themselves well in harsh and challenging climatic conditions and ripe at their best during the mid-season.

All the wines produced by this grape variety exhibit the aromas similar to strawberry, peaches, ripe white fruits as well as fresh red fruits. The wines produced from Cal Karasi are high in acidity and are very tasteful in nature.

Food pairing

As already stated, all the wines produced out of this grape variety are very tasteful in nature. Hence, they can be paired well with a number of food varieties.

These wines are considered as a good match with different kinds of pastries, cheese and other similar fruits. These wines are also paired at the best with the food like Frambuazli rulo pasta as well as raspberry roll cake.

You can also pair the wines produced out of this grape variety with the veggies like spinach as well as cheese.
