Origin

This red wine grape finds its main origin in Turkey. Cal Karasi is only found in the mountainous regions around Gomce village.
These vines best suite the Mediterranean climate. The temperatures can rise to 40 degree Celsius in summer and can fall up to -10 degree Celsius in the winter season.
These vines take a time period of about 80 days with precipitation, majorly during the winter season. The vines of this grape variety grow in the soil that differs from clay loam in the lower elevations to the calcareous chalks at the higher altitudes of 1100m meters.
The berries of this grape are purplish-black in color and therefore the wines produced out of this grape are gorgeous as to their appearance. The form of these berries is ellipsoidal and their size ranges from small to medium.
These vines also entertain the capability to grow themselves well in harsh and challenging climatic conditions and ripe at their best during the mid-season.
