Pampanuto grapes

Pampanuto is a very famous variety of white wine grape that hails from Italy. In the Italian region, this white wine grape variety mainly grows in the Apulia region in the southernmost Italy.

In this particular region, this grape variety is primarily taken into use as a blending variety and is mostly paired with the grape varieties that comprise of a higher acidity, in order to tone down their level of acids and to further make them drinkable.

This white wine grape variety also happens to be a permitted variety in the Denominazione di Origine Controllata wines of the Gioiadel Colle DOC that is located in the province of Bari.

In this particular DOC, Pampanuto is used in a very minor quantity in the white wines which are mainly composed of 50-70 percent Trebbiano Toscano and others.

At the same time, this white wine grape variety is also used in other varieties in order to fill up the remainder of this blend.

This grape variety is thus evidently destined to be used in several DOCs and therefore the vines of this white wine grape variety must be harvested in order to yield no greater than 13 tons or hectares.

The finished wines that are produced out of this white wine grape variety attain a minimum level of alcohol of 10.5 percent respectively.

This white wine grape variety is also addressed under a number of synonyms. The major synonyms of this white wine grape variety include the names such as Pampanino, La Pampanuta, Pampanuta, Rizzulo as well as Pampanuto di Terlizzi.

Apart from being used in a number of blending wines, this white wine grape variety is solely used as to the production and preparation of the Castel Del Monte Bianco DOC where this white wine grape variety is used in the preparation of the varietal wines.

The vines of this grape variety produce the grapes that are large and waxy. This grape variety is used as to the production and preparation of frizzante (slightly sparkling) as well as spumante (sparkling) wines.

This white wine grape variety is not grown very extensively. However, there are a few examples of the wines produced out of this white wine grape variety that are also taken into use for exporting them in other countries.

This white wine grape variety is considered as a vigorous grape variety that comprises of some high-yielding grapes. These grapes are fairly tolerant of the severe climatic conditions and they show a great resistance to various fungal infections and diseases.

Origin

The historical documents that tell us the story about the origin of this white wine grape variety are very scarce.

However, a little documentation about this white wine grape variety reveals that this grape variety is a long-cultivated native Puglia grape, which is particularly grown in the region of Castel Del Monte. This documentation has been indicated by Professor Giuseppe in his writings quoted in the year 1875.

Characteristics

The grapes of this white wine grape variety are considered as vigorous as well as high-yielding grapes. The clusters if these grapes are medium as to its size and conical or pyramidal as to its appearance.

This grape is a compact grape and the berries of the same are yellow-green as to its appearance. This grape variety is mostly blended with the Bombino Bianco where it complements the latter with a low level of acidity as well as high level of sugar.

These qualities of this white wine grape variety are always appreciated and this is why the wines produced out of this white wine grape variety are very much famous among the locals.

All the wines produced out of this grape variety are considered as great in terms of its taste and flavor. The taste of these wines is very similar to fruits and these wines are fresh, fragrant as well as gentle.

Food pairing

All the wines produced out of this white wine grape variety taste their best when they are paired with the food items such as eggplant parmigiana, cream cheese crostini as well as the glass noodles along with lime, chilli and cilantro.
