Prieto Picudo grapes

Prieto Picudo is a very rare and a dark-skinned grape variety that is mainly planted and cultivated in its homeland of Leon in the regions of northern Spain.

This grape variety is also used as to the creation of both light rose wines as well as deeply pigmented red wines.

Thus, because of this reason this variety of red wine grape is used in the preparation of both varietal wines as well as blends.

Most commonly, this red wine grape variety is used in the blends along with Mencia as well as Tempranillo.

This variety of red wine grape is considered as one of the main grape varieties of the wines of denomination of origin (DO) Spanish Tierra de Leon.

The grapes of this red wine variety have a good coloring texture, a good level of acidity along with sugar and tannins.

This red wine grape variety is very versatile in nature and therefor it produces the wines of all the kinds, be it a varietal wine or a blending wine.

Most of the wines prepared out of this red wine grape variety are considered to be similar to the flavors of red currant, licorice as well as blackberry.

These wines entertain the notes similar to mineral along with vanilla and toast, particularly in the wines that have been prepared out of oak treatment.

The rose wines produced out of this grape variety are considered to be highly aromatic that show the fragrance similar to strawberry as well as raspberry along with the touches of citrus, peach and flowers.
