Broad amber rim, with olive highlights, around a mahogany gold core. Very fine complex nose with notes of orange flower and marmalade, a discreet vanilla oakiness and warm nutty notes of walnut, macadamia and marzipan, against a sumptuous background of molasses and butterscotch. The palate is smooth and honeyed but lifted by a crisp acidity. The luscious flavours of fig, damson and apricot confit persist into the long mellow finish. A beautifully balanced and finely constituted wine displaying all the nuanced and multi-layered character of long wood ageing. 94/100 points Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate “The 1966 Single Harvest Tawny Port (i.e., a Colheita) is a traditional blend, aged in French and American oak. It comes in at 183 grams per litre of residual sugar. Surprisingly rich and fresh, this seems younger than its age. The complexity here is not quite as great as with some and the nuances of molasses and the like are controlled. On the other side of the coin, it has a rather sensual texture, finishing with a sugary burst. Underneath is the expected acidity and a bit of pop. Overall, it is rather seductive and quite delicious.” A wonderful 50th vintage wine gift for a 1966 anniversary. This vintage port is shipped in a deluxe Taylors wooden presentation box with four wine accessories (corkscrew, wine pourer, drip stopper & wine thermometer) [worth £17.99] at no extra cost.
