Whether you are eating in at home, going out to dinner, or even if you cannot be with your special person, and want to send them a gift of wine.

Happy Valentine day

The Best Wines to Accompany a Romantic Meal at Home

Stop and think for a moment, if you are preparing a romantic meal for your new Valentine, how do you know what kind of wine they enjoy?

Of course, the wine choice is going to be mainly driven by the food pairings of the meal you are cooking.

But you still need to make sure that the wine you serve is going to be well received and enjoyed by your Valentine.

This means going for wines that are not too challenging, that can be enjoyed by anyone, but are still great to drink.

Below are three potential pairings.

One for fish and white meat dishes, one for red meat dishes, and one that makes a great dessert wine.

Chablis Domaine de Vauroux

Coming from Domaine de Vauroux, this is our selection of wine to drink with fish, white meat, or even vegetarian food.

This really is a simple go to pairing. Chablis has long been one of the best wines to pair with this kind of food.

It is simple to drink, and not too demanding.

A great, flowery bouquet, and an inoffensive taste delivery with a nice fresh finish.

Badia A Coltibuono Chianti Classico

Coming from the Waitrose Cellar, this is a solid Chianti Classico produced by one of the most respected Chianti wineries.

Chianti is a very good choice for Valentine’s Day, because it is simply so easy to drink.

Paired with red meat dishes, this is a red wine that is powerful enough to clear the palate, but doesn’t challenge in any way.

Meaning even people who have only a passing liking for red wine will appreciate it.

Barbadillo Solear Manzanilla

From the Waitrose Cellar, this is a very light, tawny coloured Sherry.

If you have already drank a bottle, or even two of wine with your main meal, you might not be up for drinking a whole bottle of dessert wine as well.

So a couple of small glasses of Sherry makes a great compromise.

Sweet enough to compliment any dessert, and great to sip long after the meal is finished.

French Wines to Enjoy Over Dinner

France has always had a reputation for being a country populated by romantic people.

So if you are taking your date out to dinner on Valentine’s Day, why drink some French wine?

Show your Valentine that you have a truly romantic side, and also a working knowledge of great French wines.

French wines are refined, distinctive and complex. Drinking French wine with your Valentine is a good way to show them that you too, are complex.

Impress them with your choice of French wine, either white or red, from the selection below.

Bourgogne Chardonnay, Les Murelles Domaine de Brully

Coming from Domaine Roux Pere & Fils, this is a wonderful example of what a good Chardonnay should be.

A refined bouquet, a little citrus and flowery in delivery.

When it hits the palate, this bouquet expands in to a refined taste, not overly dry, and with a very soft finish.

Côtes du Rhône Blanc Domaine De La Janasse

From Domaine De La Janasse, this is a lovely little white Côtes du Rhône.

And like all Côtes du Rhône, it is especially great for pairing with white meat or fish dishes.

It really adds a subtle taste difference to these kinds of foods.

A fruity bouquet, that is often in juxtaposition to the aromas of the food, and this is what makes it so great.

This is a French white wine that truly enhances what you are eating on Valentine’s Day.

Chanson Pere & Fils Burgundy 1921

Coming from Vintage Wine Gifts, this is something really rather special.

OK, it isn’t cheap, but you did want to impress your Valentine didn’t you?

And what could do this better than a Burgundy that is almost 100 years old? This is pure classic Burgundy, and it pulls no punches.
A complex French red wine, that would be a perfect conversation piece of dinner on Valentine’s Day.

Drunk with rich meat dishes, this will really be something your date will remember.

Low Alcohol Wines to Keep You Sober

If you are on a first date on Valentine’s Day, you might think it is a good idea to stay sober, so you don’t make a fool of yourself in front of your dinner partner.

Or maybe you or your date simply don’t drink that much alcohol?

Neither of these situations mean that you need to forgo drinking some great tasting wine with your Valentine’s Day dinner.

There are some great low alcohol wines that really work very well indeed.

Here is a selection of the best.

Forster Mariengarten Riesling Kabinett Trocken Weingut Eugen Spindler

German white wines are often those with the lowest alcohol content, and this Riesling from Spindler Lindenhof is a good example.

A minimally sweet wine, with a nice and fruity bouquet.

When it hits the palate, it pleases with a slightly lemon taste.

The long finish is also very refreshing, as we would expect from a light German white wine.

Punto Rosa

Coming from Val d’oca, this is a very light Prosecco Rose.

For people who want to keep their alcohol consumption down, then Prosecco is a great choice.

There is a reason why Italian people drink Prosecco with snacks frequently, it simply doesn’t carry a heavy alcoholic kick.

This Rose is a very refreshing wine, light and enjoyable for you to share with your date on Valentine’s Day.

Ondarre Cava Brut

From TheDrinkShop, here we have a very light Cava.

Once again, a wine with a fairly low alcohol content.

This is a much drier wine than our last two selections, and this is why we included it.

Some people simply prefer dry wine. This gives the classic Cava bouquet and taste, and at a very good price point.

A great, inexpensive substitute for Champagne on Valentine’s Day.

Giving a Valentine’s Gift of Wine

If you can’t be with that special person on Valentine’s Day, you could send them a great gift of wine to show them that you are still thinking about them.

Now, when it comes to wine gifts that really show how much you care, there really is only one option… Champagne.

At first glance this might seem like an expensive choice.

But there are some great authentic Champagne gifts that don’t need to break the bank.

Below is a selection of the best on offer.

Taittinger Brut Reserve NV

From TheDrinkShop, this is the cheapest of our selections of Champagne to gift to somebody on Valentine’s Day.

Yet although it is fairly inexpensive, it is still a great Champagne.

And as we would expect from Taittinger, it really surprises with its classic Champagne taste at a reduced price.

This is primarily due to the fact that even though this is a budget Champagne, it is still aged for a full 3 to 4 years before it is sent out for retail.

If you want a Champagne gift that isn’t going to cost too much, you could do much worse than this Champagne.

Bollinger La Grande Annee 2005

Moving up a little in price here, this 2005 vintage Champagne from Bollinger comes from TheDrinkShop.

It is an honest, solid Bollinger, but at a much cheaper price than many of its other well-known vintages.

It’s not cheap, but it is affordable. And when you are gifting somebody Champagne on Valentine’s Day, when they see the name Bollinger, they know it is a quality gift.

And overall, it’s a great Champagne to drink as well.

A good Champagne gift that can be enjoyed straight away, rather than being kept for a special occasion.

Dom Perignon 2006

This is out most expensive selection of Champagne to gift to your Valentine.

Again from TheDrinkShop, this is a premium Champagne. It carries the prestigious Dom Perignon name.

No other Champagne has such a reputation as Dom Perignon, and for good reason.

They simply make the best Champagne in the world.

And this is what you are telling the person you gift this Champagne to on Valentine’s Day. That you are sending them the best.

And therefore, you have great regard for them.

Valentine’s Day Wine

As we have seen in this article, Valentine’s Day is a fantastic opportunity to drink some really great wine.

The good thing about drinking wine on Valentine’s Day is that you will be sharing it with just one other person, somebody that you care about.

This opens up some options for learning about each other.

What each other’s taste in wine is, what you like to drink with certain foods, and a whole host of other interesting facts.

Which of course, can only bring you both closer together.
