Posip is referred to an autochthonous variety of white wine grape the plantation and cultivation of which is primarily carried out in the region of Croatia.

To be more particular, this white wine grape variety is grown in abundance in the regions of Dalmatian on the island of Korcula.

At the same time, the vines of this white wine grape variety also find their plantation on the peninsula of Peljesac.

This grape variety is very much seen in all the areas around the region of Korcula and there it is considered as one of the most productive grape varieties.

In this particular region, the most productive areas that are concerned with the excessive plantation of this white wine grape variety are the municipalities of Smokvica and Cara.

This grape variety is grown in different regions and interestingly every region growing this white wine grape variety features distinct characteristics of the grapes of Posip.

This variety of white wine grape is considered as a light-skinned grape variety which is considered to be indigenous to OtokKorcula, one of the various islands that are located just near the jagged coastline of Korcula.

In fact, this region is considered to cultivate the vines of this white wine grape variety at the largest and the locals here carry out the plantation and cultivation of the vines very whole-heartedly.

This particular region has contributed in the production of this grape in great amounts. The name of this white wine grape variety has been derived from the gently tapered profile of the grapes of Posip that entertain a pretty much resemblance to the curved side, or so to speak, the sip of the soil-tilling tools traditionally carried out in these parts.

This white wine grape variety has not been considered as very prolific since all its occasional blending partners such as Bogdanusa and Grk fetch amazing yields and carry the tendency to ripen sufficiently and early in order to ward off the risk of adverse weather conditions of the autumn season.

Interestingly, this white wine grape variety was discovered by chance by the local growers who then began to carry out its cultivation in its very native place.

During the past, the plantation and cultivation of this white wine grape variety were concerned only on an island of Korcula.

Later on because of its superior qualities the same began to work on the islands of Brac and Hvar, Korlat region as well as Biokovo slopes.

This white wine grape variety is addressed under different synonyms that include the names like Poship, PosipVeliki, VgorksiBijeli, Posipak and many others.

Posip is a famous white wine grape variety that mainly finds its inception on the Korcula islands. To be more precise, this white wine grape variety was originated in the Dalmatian region of the island. This grape variety was discovered by chance by the local growers.
