Wine Tasting Notes

1. Appearance – the visual

The 2015 Terre Di Faiano Primotivo is ruby red, and almost blood-red, with some velvety, sticking to the glass when it is rotated, and wrapping around with faint hints of legs that is fast fading out again.

2. Bouquet – the smell

This wine gives some strong aromas of rich dark fruit, giving you an idea of what to come, when you finally taste the wine.

3. Flavour – the taste

The fruity taste in this Primitivo is a full concentrated taste of ripe cherry with a complexity of plum, with a soft finish and hints of raisin, mocha and cedar.

Served at room temperature, it will give you the warm and spicy flavours, enjoyable, not necessary served with any food at all.

4. The Finish – after taste and conclusion

There is an extreme, rather long tannin afterwards, that gives an expression of cherry and liquorice, in the note of a very fruity strong sense of alcohol.

The great concentration of taste and the high alcohol content gives the wine a taste that easily could call to the much more expensive Amarone, despite huge differences in price and production.

    My absolute favourite
I’ve been drinking this particular wine for quite a few years now, in fact ever since James Martin (when he was on Saturday Kitchen) recommended another Primitivo wine from another well known “food hall” (which I’ve also tried) though I still prefer this one. I’ve tried hundreds of wines, particularly Shiraz but always buy this one in cases as it’s such good value (when on offer), though if I run out I will pay full price. I don’t know why some restaurants don’t have this on their wine list, my eyes always light up when I see Primitivo as its just so nice. Thoroughly recommended, especially this particular wine. My second favourite is the Brazin Old Vine Zindfandel.

    Goes well with… Beef
